Welcome to a Life as Dom's Mom

This is me and my pride and joy as we celebrated his 10th birthday.  It is hard to believe that it has been 3 years since this picture was taken.  I must admit that this is probably one of my favorite pictures of us together.  Dominic is known to be a little goofball when it comes to taking pictures (just like his momma), and in this one, he has a genuine smile.

Okay, to the basics, my name is Connie and I am actually currently 33 years old and I have a 13 year old son named Dominic.  Yup, as math would have it, I am 20 years older than my son.  Ironically, my mother and I have the same amount of years separating us.

Anywho, we currently reside in the Rio Grande Valley of Deep South Texas.  If you have ever attempted to travel in the Great Country of Texas, you will know that there is South Texas and there is Deep South Texas.  When it takes you over 10 hours to travel across a state and you barely reach a border, you come to appreciate the saying "Everything is bigger in Texas", and travel times are no different.

We recently moved over to the city of Edinburg from the town of Weslaco.  I love Weslaco and I am proud to be from that town, and this hooplah of it being one of the most crime ridden cities in Texas or the Nation, is quite silly, if you ask me.  But we are not here to talk about the drama that unfolds in the towns from here, we are here to discuss us. Yippie!

So, we live in Edinburg, and we have the cutest lemon Basset Hound named Lola.  She is named after the main character in Barry Manilow's song, Copacabana.  As a baby, Lola likes to test our patience with her constant desire to chew everything, but so far our shoes have survived, and we just keep spoiling her with new chew toys.  Can't wait till she learns how to successfully howl, but no rush.

As simple as our lives sound, Dominic is involved in almost every sport at school, band, robotics, science club, and he is able to maintain an A average.  He is a great kid and I am so proud of him and all of his accomplishments.  Just this year (7th grade), he was selected to participate in the DUKE TIPS program.  And my smart cookie, actually made it in by getting an ACT score of 21.  Not to brag too much, but that is the same score I received on my ACT when I was a Sophomore in High School, so he is beyond me, and I love it!

Okay, so enough about us, (for the most part), I am hoping to fill this blog with my life as the mother of the most awesomest (real word or not, he is) I know.  Here and there, I will add our Christian beliefs and how we are dealing with temptations, little humor for my readers, and even some fun projects that I am trying here and there and if they work for me or not.  So, sit back, pick your feet up and grab a nice cold glass of lemonade and enjoy my Life as Dom's Mom.
